About
Comfy is an exploration of connection, affection amidst the softness of a common space in most of our homes—bed.
“你晚上睡觉有穿袜子吗?”(Do you wear socks at night?) is a question my mum frequently asked to express care and concern. In a 25 - 28°C air conditioned room, having cold feet isn't a big part of the equation. Yet I chose to put on a pair of fluffy socks just so I can have a shared experience with my mom, to say: “有,我晚上有穿袜子!” (I do, I wear socks at night!) I wanted to show my mom that her recommendations are important—an attempt to grow closer by highlighting this similarity we share.
The slight touch of the feet brings forth a sense of affection captured in a brief moment that depicts what waking up looks and feels like beside my partner, Z. The bed is a space of both comfort and discomfort for us—it is where we take shelter after a long day, to sit back and enjoy entertaining shows and where many uncomfortable conversations are had; teetering on the brink with a baggage of unmet and uncommunicated needs and expectations. Despite this, the softness of our bed reminds me of the countless times Z has shown me patience and kindness while navigating through challenging times.
